This division focuses on processing locally sourced agricultural commodities into shelf-stable food products for Somali consumers and export markets.
Our Services
Sesame oil and potentially sunflower or groundnut oil, extracted from Somali-grown oilseeds. The plan includes a small sesame oil pressing facility to produce bottled cooking oil and sesame paste (tahini), leveraging Somalia’s status as a top sesame producer. By-products like sesame press-cake will be sold as high-protein animal feed, creating additional revenue.
Maize and sorghum flour, packaged for urban markets. With Somalia producing only ~75,000 tons of maize against a demand of over 1.2 million tons, there is space to both improve production and process it locally. Nihao aims to establish a maize milling line to produce fortified flour, tapping into the growing demand and import substitution opportunity.
: As a longer-term prospect, Nihao is exploring dairy processing (such as UHT milk or powdered milk). Somalia currently imports over $200 million in dairy products per year (mostly milk powder), so establishing domestic processing for camel and cow milk could dramatically cut imports and improve nutrition.
